Great Roasters' Charity Ball

Great Roasters' Charity Ball

Roasting contest to support the planet

I had a pleasure participating in Great Roasters' Charity Ball organized by Sample Coffee.

The last weekend of 1st, 2nd of Feb, 12 of the finest roasters in Sydney gathered and roasted coffee using this beautifully refurbished GW Barth "Ball" Roaster.

So the people can buy a bag of coffee home from your favorite roaster and all the profit will be donated to Redcross & Carbon Neutral Charity Foundation.

More info here.

Roaster includes:

What a line-up!!

All the green coffees were kindly donated by Caravel Coffee and Condesa Co.Lab

We had 2 coffees to choose from

  • Colombia Los Naranjos -Caravela
  • Burundi Rugazi -Condesa

I choose Colombia for my roast.

Why?

Because I am a big fan of Colombian coffee as you have already noticed ; ) And the green coffee looked super clean and uniform.

It was such an amazing experience to be able to roast on this piece of art.

However, this roaster works completely different way to the roaster what I am used to. Forget everything you know about roaster and use your senses. It really requires a lot of attention to the smell, feel, and bit of hunch to control the roast. I personally loved it every second of it.

I tasted my roast straight after, and I am quite happy with my coffee.

It is very rich, sweet and winey, and it has dark berry, brown sugar and hint of cocoa notes, and the sweetness lingers.
